WHO WAS MAGGIE HATHAWAY?
Maggie Hathaway was a powerhouse of Los Angeles activism, blending her passions for sports, art, and civil rights to break racial barriers. A multi-talented singer, actress, and sportswriter, she took up golf in 1955 and quickly turned her focus toward desegregating the green. In 1963, she founded the Minority Associated Golfers to champion African-American access to local courses
Beyond the fairway, Hathaway made a permanent mark on entertainment history by founding the NAACP Image Awards in 1967, ensuring Black performers received the recognition often denied them by mainstream ceremonies like the Oscars. Her legacy lives on at the Maggie Hathaway Golf Course (formerly Jack Thompson Golf Course), which was renamed in 1997 to honor her years of dedicated instruction and advocacy

“Fun par 3 course, conditions were pretty good. A small bucket of range balls is super cheap too at only $3. Great price and good course to get a quick 9 holes in.“
